This Thursday, my graphic design class took a trip to the local community college, JCCC's, contemporary art museum. The small, but very sophisticated two floors where creativity flourished, represented many different contemporary artists. One of my favorite artists that was actually there on a loan, was the artist known by KAWS. I am fascinated with graffiti and tag art so I found it inspiring how he turned his, some would say hood rat talents, into fine art.
This was one of the pieces of KAWS' that was on display. As you can tell he took the globally known character Mickey Mouse and put his own urban spin on it. The detail is impeccable.
One of my favorite elements of his works, are his precise lines, the cleanliness. Every single one leaves you feeling refreshed and your eyes pleased.
I really enjoyed my time at the Nerman Contemporary Museum and I will definitely go back.
The attention KAWS gives to surface quality is impeccable for sure! I just couldn't stop staring at the feel of the paint on aluminum. And the quality of light reflecting off the sculpture in front was stunning.
ReplyDeleteThe line around the Michelin Man was weird how it played off the depth of the canvas and changed from where you viewed it in such a dynamic way by changing thickness as you moved too.
