My school's website, onwravens.net, has been up since as long as I have attended here and probably even further back. Out of other schools' websites, Olathe Northwest's has been always been far above the rest in terms of being visually pleasing and user friendly.
Over the past three years, there has been statistics kept on how the website has been used.
For instance, the percentage of sessions that took place on a desktop computer has dropped significantly; where as the percentage of sessions that took place on a mobile device has increased probably due to the advancement and increased availability of mobile phones. If this trend continues, I believe that next year will be a milestone year because either the percentage of mobile sessions will surpass desktop or they will both be around 50%.
Another way you can measure how your website is being used is with the bounce rate. The bounce rate is the amount of people who arrive at your page and leave before interacting with it at all; basically showing how many people thought your website was not useful to them at the time. By comparing the bounce rate, pages per session and the average session duration it can be seen that the higher the bounce rate is, the lower the pages per session is, and the lower the duration of the session is. The fact that the mobile users have the highest bounce rate and the lowest session duration makes sense because when you visit a website on your phone, you usually have in mind the exact information you are looking for and time isn't spent just lolly-gagging around the website.
Looking at the bigger picture of the way the internet is used as a whole, last year was a milestone year for America. In 2014 the amount of internet users on mobile devices surpassed the amount of desktop users. This comes to no surprise to me, as technology, especially with mobile devices, is advancing quickly and it is becoming easier and easier to access the internet from the comfort of where ever you are, right at your own fingertips.
