Time Flies When You're Living Your Passion

Another Year

I can vividly remember writing my first end-of-the-year blog post for the first class I took from Dr. Zuegner during the end of my freshman year. Now, here I am yet again reflecting at how fast time passes as I am halfway through my junior year of college. This semester has been a whirlwind to say the least. It has come with many challenges including stretching myself too thin, my anxiety coming into fruition, and finding out what I am really capable of. Despite the challenges, there has also been a multitude of amazing things this semester has brought along. My work with Erace The Hate has really taken off, and my boss has trusted me with more and more of the company. I have had the opportunity to hold the position as Vice President of PRSSA here at Creighton, which has allowed me to connect with a group of bright individuals who share my passion. The biggest positive thing that has happened this semester is my passion for public relations/digital marketing/communications has been fully ignited.

Social Media

One of the elements that have assisted in my passion being sparked, is the Social Media class I took this semester with Dr. Zuegner. My job deals with managing and creating content for social media, so I went into this class thinking I would learn some new tactics and tools, but not a ton. However, this class has really taught me a lot and provided some key connections between topics I knew little about. Dr. Zuegner gave me the opportunity to share my existing knowledge about social media with the class with examples from my work with Erace The Hate. This process of teaching really helped me to understand what I was doing a little bit more and it also gave me confidence in my knowledge and abilities. Having Dr. Zuegner believe in me and what I do with public relations and social media really gave me the confidence to push through the setbacks.

Specifics

To go into the specifics of the social media class this semester, overall I really liked the class. The real-world application that the social media strategy plan provides is really integral to being successful in the public relations realm. Beyond that, it is important for any field to have knowledge about the social media platforms and how they can work to bring in business. I thought the blog posts and discussions were good and forced you to think about new topics. The only thing that I didn't necessary like about the class was the HubSpot Certification. While I think it was helpful and taught me a lot of the terminology I didn't know before, I felt rushed to complete it. I think if it was assigned to be due throughout the whole semester with staggered due dates every couple of weeks I would be able to take in the information better.

As I get through this tough time of dead week and finals, I am looking forward to the next semester in my Creighton career.
