Here are examples of websites both show good and bad aspects of web design.
Too Busy
With all of the bright colors, no uniform color scheme whatsoever, and distracting gifs, this car leasing website takes the cake for excessive business.
No Competition
This design is simple enough to where you know exactly where you are to move throughout the site. The color scheme is uniform and not too overpowering and none of the graphics are distracting of the focus. |
Where do I click?
In general, this website is a mess, but it's largest flaw is the law of click-ability. I have absolutely no clue where you are supposed to click other than the "click here for the rest of the story" that happens to be underlined. Links are not a different color or presented as buttons. |
Ahh that's where I click
Not only does the simplicity of the website allow you to see where you can click, but also features like underlining the link contribute. Adding a contrasting rollover color, like this website did with the transition between black and red also lets the reader know where their mouse can go. |
Where do I start?
This website looks like they attempted to break up the page but their approach has failed. Having the font be all one color on top of a repeating background makes it hard for users to distinguish whether or not there are different parts of the site. |
I know exactly where to look
Without even looking at the text, you can see the divisions in this websites just through the color block layout that they have used. Users can properly see where they need to sign up, go to different parts of the site, or read on for more information. |
Conventions Rock
This website uses commonly known conventions to keep the website as simple and effective as they can. By using small images above the link labels, users will see the phone and know exactly what the designer meant. |
Visual Hierarchies
This website is a perfect example of hierarchies. The title of the site is accentuated by making it larger and in the center of the page to show the importance. The links seem less important, but are still large enough to show that they matter along with being placed at the top of the page. |
